Des Moines Police K9’s and their partners took home top honors at the semi-annual Narcotic Trials.

For the first time in Des Moines PD history the team took home first place in the overall best team achievements competition.

Des Moines’ team consisted of four sets of officers including, Sgt. Mark Miller and partner Emir II, Sgt. Ronald Kouski and partner Cak, SPO Alycia Peterson and partner Jack, and SPO Cordell Miller and partner Bello.

In addition to the first place team title Sgt. Miller and SPO Peterson took first and second place respectively for narcotic vehicle searches.

Officers are required to attend the trials by the United State Police Canine Association to ensure that both handlers and dogs are on the top of their game.  They competed against teams from Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota in a range of timed events.
