The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is cautioning drivers to be careful at intersections because many traffic control devices are covered with snow.
The heavy, wet snow is sticking to traffic lights, making it difficult for drivers to see what color the light is. The sheriff’s office says though you may be able to determine what color your light is, cross-traffic may not be able to. They advise driver’s to approach intersections carefully and make sure it is safe before proceeding.
Crews are using lift equipment throughout the metro to clear the snow off of traffic lights but because of the continuing snow and low temperatures, this could be an ongoing problem.
