Flags across the state are flying at half-staff Friday in honor of a fallen solider.

Gov. Terry Branstad ordered all flags be lowered to honor Vietnam War aviation antisubmarine warfare technician Donald McGrane.

The Waverly native was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery Thursday.

He had been missing since July of 1967.

The Department of Defense says McGrane and his crew were on a search and rescue mission when their helicopter was hit by enemy gunfire and crashed, killing all four servicemen on board.

The remains of the men were identified in 2009.

McGrane was buried with full military honors along with his crew.
