More than 700 community members volunteered to help build a greater Des Moines Saturday.
This year marked the 18th annual Wells Fargo Rebuilding Together Day.
Volunteers repaired homes of low income homeowners. One recipient received a $1,000 budget and got new bathroom flooring, water heater, ceiling fan, fresh paint in 3 rooms, and a handful of new friends.
“Cause that’s really what it boils down to is neighbors helping neighbors,” said Ted Zaletel. “Even though none of these volunteers have ever met Mr. Piggee before, by the time that they left they’ll be really good friends and probably going to stay in touch down the road somewhere.”
Due to the day’s rainy weather, nine of the outside projects have been postponed until next Saturday.
