Ankeny parents accused of locking their children in the basement were in court Tuesday.

Paul and Joann Drake are charged with false imprisonment and neglect. Police say they locked their 13-and-14-year-old kids in the basement for weeks.

Police say the only time they were let out was to attend school.

The pair appeared to enter a plea in the case, but the state told the judge everyone involved needed more time to work out the details.

A new hearing date hasn’t been set.
