The city of Ankeny is continuing its streak as one of the nation’s most playful cities.

For the seventh consecutive year, Ankeny has been named a “Playful City USA” community by the non-profit KaBOOM! The organization is dedicating to giving kids a great childhood full of play.

Ankeny was named to the list of 217 cities because of its outstanding dedication to play. A partnership between the city of Ankeny, the Ankeny Kiwanis Club, and the Ankeny School District to allow access to the Miracle League Field and All-Inclusive Playground during school hours and for other special needs programming was cited as a major reason Ankeny was picked.

Two other Iowa communities were also on the list – Davenport and North Liberty.

All of the cities named to the list are now eligible for a grant of $15,000, $20,000, and $30,000. The recipients of the grant will be announced in the fall.
