TECHNOLOGY SWITCH: School Moves From Laptops To IPads
Students at a Des Moines High School could be upgrading from laptops to iPads sooner than expected.
North High School began issuing Macbooks to students in October of 2011, but when the district tried to renew the insurance plan for the computers this spring, the State Department of Education said they wouldn’t pay for it because the insurance was about to quadruple to $200,000.
Instead, the High School has decided to switch to iPads, which they were planning on doing a few years down the road anyway. The insurance for the iPads in less expensive because they are less likely than the laptops to break.
The school board still has to approve the plan.
