The Iowa Speedway could get an economic boost from the statehouse to help lure in a Sprint Cup race.
Tuesday night the state senate approved a plan to give $8 million to the track over the next four years to upgrade facilities.
The measure was part of a larger appropriations bill that is now headed to the Iowa house.
Governor Branstad’s office told the Des Moines Register he is aware of the Speedway money, but wouldn’t say if he plans to sign off on the bill.
The Newton track has already hosted Nationwide and Indy Car racing, but a Sprint Cup race would be the biggest event yet at the track.
