The owners of a historic Marshalltown hotel are searching for a hidden treasure that could be painted within their walls.

The Hotel Tallcorn has been located in Marshalltown since 1928. When it was built the famed artist Grant Wood was commissioned to decorate the hotel’s ballroom and restaurant.

Wood’s work in the hotel reportedly included a large mural which mysteriously disappeared.

The building is currently being renovated and turned into an apartment building, and the owners have brought in a specialist to locate the mural during the renovation.

However, due to conflicting reports on the hiring of Wood, the owners could be on a wild goose chase.
