Norwalk native Joel Hanrahan will not pitch for the Boston Red Sox the rest of the season.

Hanrahan will undergo season ending surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his elbow.

Hanrahan injured the elbow on Monday and will be sidelined 6-9 months, possibly more.

The 31 year old Hanrahan signed a 1 year 7 million dollar contract with Boston in the off-season.

He will be a free agent in the winter.
