Ed’s Weather Journal
Records smashed! What a day. Des Moines hit the new record of 94 around 3:00 this afternoon. The old record was 93..set in 1988. Waterloo… 96..old record 94 in 1932. Mason City hit the new record of 99. The old record was 92..set in 1998.
Lots of records were blasted away in western Iowa. Most of the old records in that area of the state were set in 1995. That was the year many people died in the same blast of heat when it hit Chicago.
Did you see the 100 degree temperature in Fort Dodge? This picture was taken by Jay Christensen. It was the last pile of snow in the Target parking lot!!!
Then there was the before/after picture from Devin Hanson in Altoona. His car thermometer was a little above the official temp..but still bananas!
Here are more interesting hot facts of Tuesday’s weather from the National Weather Service folks in Johnston.
