This summer, Merle Hay Mall is preparing for a season of renovation and new business openings.
Renovations will include the addition of new retail outlets and restaurants to the mall.
Mall CEO Elizabeth Holland announced Tuesday the addition of Flix Brewhouse, scheduled to open in the summer of 2014, which will offer movies with a meal and adult beverages.
“We set out to bring something new and different to Des Moines and are thrilled with the addition of Flix Brewhouse,” said Holland.
Holland added that the new cinema will be a destination at the mall that will be both “cutting-edge and family-friendly.”
Other changes to Merle Hay will include the addition of Firehouse Wings which owners Michael Roberts and Jason Crimmins started as a vision to celebrate firefighters.
“Fire fighters don’t get the credit they deserve and we’re proud to stand behind them,” Roberts said. “Our goal is to create a foundation that helps bring attention to these heroes and supports families who are displaced by fires.”
iWireless and MC Sports will also be included in the additions.
To incorporate the new additions, some store retailers will be relocated.
DEB Shops® will be relocating next to Staples, Maurices will setup a new store front next to Debs. Red Rock Wildlife Conservation Center and House of Leathers & Sports will be relocating to the Target Wing across from Shoe Carnival and Ulta. Red Rock Wildlife Conservation Center will expand more than 11,000 square feet. Rawda will be moving to the main level next to Deck the Walls.
Further renovations will also take place this summer to the Mall’s Douglas Avenue entrance to match recent renovations to the east entrance.
