A special investigation by the State Auditor’s Office has turned up more than $90,000 in overbilling by Indianola’s city attorney.

The report shows John Hoyman, who also represented Indianola Municipal Utilities, overbilled for his services between 2006 and 2012.

Hoyman was hired by the city in 1986.

During an interview with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Hoyman admitted to falsifying monthly invoices to the city for prosecution services. He claims though the hours on individual invoices were inflated, he provided an equivalent amount of legal services for the city.

Hoyman was suspended from both positions at the end of August of last year.

The report has been turned over to several law enforcement agencies as well as the Warren County Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.
