Iowa’s largest Salvation Army thrift store will open in Des Moines on June 1st.

The new 27,000-square foot store is located at 4620 Southeast 14th Street.

It’s twice as large as the current Southeast 14th Street store and officials say shoppers will find more inventory.

For example, there were five racks of women’s pants in the old store. In the new, there are 25.

The new store will also be a donation site, with a covered receiving area.

“We have it divided by sizes and colors. And we’ve got all kind of product out here. This is the most we’ve ever been able to display. All sorts of sports of equipment. You’ll see lot of new clothing by the way,” says Major Tim Miller with the Salvation Army.

Proceeds from the store finance the operations of a residential treatment program for men with drug and alcohol addiction.

The new store will employ four full-time employees and 12 part-time workers. The hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
