A fire in Des Moines sent two people to the hospital Thursday night.

Crews responded to the apartment building on 9th Street just after 7:30 p.m.

Authorities say a firefighter fell through a hole in the floor and suffered a back injury. Investigators aren’t releasing the firefighter’s name, but say he was released from the hospital Friday.

A tenant was also treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire caused about $60,000 in damage and the residents had to be relocated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
