A teenager in West Des Moines is behind a special program that provides special treats to abused and neglected horses.

Fifteen-year-old Carter Forrest started a program with the Dahl’s on 50th Street last year. The grocery story saves any bruised apples that it would otherwise throw away. Then Carter collects them and delivers them to the horses at the Animal Rescue League once a month.

Currently there are 14 horses available for adoption at the ARL.
