The Iowa State Patrol is getting some hand-me-downs from the U.S. Dept. of Defense.
The Guard is donating eight humvees to the Department of Public Safety through a special program, which allows the military to transfer equipment to law enforcement agencies at no cost.
The Iowa National Guard is helping to fix-up and paint the vehicles.
Once they are ready, they will be stationed at state patrol headquarters across the state.
The Patrol says the humvees will be a big asset this winter when snow and ice make travel more difficult.
