Friday, people in several metro cities can turn in unwanted or unusable weapons and ammunition.

Ankeny, Des Moines, Johnston, Mitchellville and Pleasant Hill police departments are holding gun take back events.

Anyone turning in a weapon or ammunition must have identification. Police say they will accept firearms of any kind, knives, swords, other weapons, and ammunition.

Police are asking that guns be unloaded and placed in the trunk. Anyone unable to unload their gun is asked to let officers know right away so an officer can help.

The events run from noon to 6:00 p.m.
