Mother Nature was on her best form this week and so were several of the high school athletes during the final day of the Coed state Track and Field meet.
With perfect conditions, more records fell at the Blue Oval.
4A sprint medley - the girls of Roosevelt are always tough and Agnes Sayeh anchored home a winner in 1:45.66. That’s a new state meet record.
Sayeh wasn't done - 100 meter dash, Agnes edges out her teammate Jaylynn-Roberts Lewis in 12.16. Dowling's Jessica Campbell takes 3rd.
That trio squared off again in the 200 and they finished 1-2-3 again, only this time it was Campbell of Dowling in a photo finish at 24.77 seconds, she was a winner by 1-hundredth of a second. Sayeh 2nd, Roberts-Lewis 3rd.
It was a great showing from both the Waukee boys and girls.
In the shuttle hurdle relay, the Warrior girls smashed the all-time mark, which they held, 1 minute 1.87 seconds. Ankeny also breaks the state record but finishes 2nd.
Then it’s the Warrior boys turn. They ran their way in to the record books holding off Cedar Rapids Kennedy in 56.47 seconds, a new state record.
Both Waukee winning teams celebrated together, as both dominated the shuttle hurdle relay. The 4A girls team title came down to the final race - 4 by 400 relay.
With Waukee needing to finish at least 5th, they managed to come in 4th, meaning they defend their 4A crown.
The Pella boys win the 3A title and Manson NW Webster brings home the 1A championship.
The other girls team champions are:
1A - Griswold, 2A - Western Christian and Davenport Assumption
4A - Waukee, 2 points better than Pleasant Valley, Dowling takes 3rd, Roosevelt 4th.
On the boys side, Manson NW Webster was on top in 1A, Monticello crushed the 2A field while Pella's late charge gives the Dutch their first team title in 27 years.
