A new family park in Altoona is starting to take shape. The City unveiled its first public sculpture Saturday morning.

Iowa artist John Brommel created the 11-foot tall version of the Easter Island head known as Moai. He made it out of rusted steel.

Brommel’s interpretation adds a bit of character to the giant face, with a smirk.

He calls his creation Moai Dude.

The 1800-pound sculpture is the first in Altoona’s new pirate adventure family park to be coined Pirate’s Cove.
