A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect for south central and southeastern Iowa until 1 AM. Polk County is included. Storms are building quickly. These storms will produce heavy downpours, frequent lightning and hail. Severe storms can also produce tornadoes with little or no warning.

Stay tuned to Channel 13.1 and 13.2 for the latest on these storms and the situation develops.

There will be cooler temperatures the rest of the week with little chance for storms until the weekend. Highs Wednesday and Thursday will be in the 60s.
