Often people in the corporate work-world want to start their own business. That was certainly true for one Fort Dodge woman who left her job to pursue a dream.

“I love it…it’s nice to have that job where I don’t have to have somebody telling me oh do this or do that. I can kind of do whatever I want…and enjoy my job now,” says Melissa Hansen.

Hansen left a job as a nurse to open KaLeiDasCope Gifts. Her consignment shop has one difference. She features products that have a local touch, made by people from the area.

Some of the stuff in the shop Hansen makes herself.

Her focus is for customers looking for a gift that could be called uncommon.

“Because you can find that unique item, that you can’t find at Walmart, Target, or Kmart…so we kind of capture that market of being able to find that unique gift,” says Hansen.

Hansen opened her shop in March, and now 22 consigners bring their items to sell in her store.
