Flooding on the Cedar River in Black Hawk County has the Iowa Department of Natural Resources shutting down George Wyth State Park.

The DNR plans to close the park Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Campers with reservations will be able to get a full refund. Weather conditions may allow the park to be opened Saturday morning. If you want to know whether the park will be open you can call 219-232-5505 for updates.

“Campers have an option of taking a wait and see approach until later in the week when they can either have a refund for the nights the campground is closed or cancel the entire reservation,” Kevin Szcodronski, chief of the Iowa DNR State Parks Bureau.

The crest of the Cedar River is expected Wednesday night in Cedar Falls and early Thursday morning in Waterloo. The river is expected to crest over flood stage in both areas.
