Every year the Des Moines masonic cemetery sets up an avenue of flags for Memorial Day.
The flags line a path leading to a site where a ceremony will be held Monday.
Workers put up the flags Thursday.
When they arrived at work Friday, the flag poles were out of the ground and the stars and stripes were missing.
The cemetery general manager says nearby Glendale Cemetery was also hit.
The flags missing from the Masonic Cemetery are worth about $1,500.
“We felt violated. I would say it’s the top five lowest forms of life stealing American flags but more in particular, stealing from a cemetery,” said Johnny Audette.
The cemetery says it also got hit last year during Memorial Day weekend. During hat incident, the thieves took the war medallions that sit by the veterans graves.
