A woman wanted for robbing a bank in Stuart has been captured more than 1,500 miles away, police said Saturday.
Security video captured a picture of the suspect at the First State Bank in Stuart on Monday afternoon.
Police say a woman walked in to the bank wearing a bright green dress and handed the teller a note demanding money.
On Tuesday, investigators say they found evidence from the robbery, at a hotel in Adair.
They tracked two suspects to Los Angeles and contacted the LAPD.
“We saw a car that matched the description and when the suspects walked up to the car we immediately took them into custody,” explained LAPD Detective Anthony Verret.
Both are from Pennsylvania. Stuart police say the two suspects will be extradited to Iowa.
“We put a lot of energy and late nights into this investigation,” Stuart Police Chief David Reha said in a release. “We wanted to make sure that we caught the individuals involved as quickly as possible and allow the citizens of Stuart to feel safe that the individuals involved would not be striking again.”
