BOYS SOCCER: State At Stake

The boys state soccer tournament is next week. Between them, Ankeny and Valley have won 5 titles.

This year just one of them is heading to state.

In the sub-state final, Hawks led 1-0 until Christopher Forrest equalized off the post. The Tigers celebrations aren’t long lived. With 13 minutes left, Colton Page splits the defense with a great cross, Marshall Clark does the rest. Hawks goes on to state.

2nd ranked Johnston took on Ames with a berth to state on the line.

It was scoreless in the 2nd half until Michael Mayberry nets the penalty.  1-0 Little Cyclones. The Dragons answer with their own PK, Ryan Harlow, back of the net.  Game tied at 1-1.

Late in the 2nd, Elvir Ibisevic, the strike from deep and it’s the game winner! Johnston win 2-1.

Dragons will take on Ankeny on Thursday at state.

Dowling Catholic also punches their ticket to state.  The Maroons beat Marshalltown 2-1.

Class 2A state qualifiers, Adel–DeSoto–Minburn upsets Glenwood 3-0, Pella shuts out Centerville 2-0 and 4th ranked Norwalk slips to Newton 1-0 in overtime.

And in class 1A, the Lions of Des Moines Christian are making their first trip to state thanks to a 2-1 shootout winner over West Central Valley.
