Gray’s lake is set to close Tuesday night due to rising flood waters. It will have an impact for people heading to the Principal Charity Classic that runs through to Sunday.
Before the flooding, parking was going to be at Waterworks Park for the event being held at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines.
Visitors are now being asked to park at the revised location at Southbridge Mall on E. Army Post Road on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Shuttles will be provided.
If flood levels continue to rise, there is a possibility Fleur Drive could also close Thursday which could potentially cause detours for the travelling crowd.
The Racoon River at Fleur Dr. is currently at 13.5 ft. and is expected to crest at 16.4 ft Thursday morning.
Over 76-thousand spectators visited the classic last year.
Despite the inclement weather, the boy’s state soccer tournament is set to go ahead at the James Cownie Soccer Complex from Thursday to Saturday.
Elsewhere in Des Moines, George Flagg Pkwy. from SW 30th to Park Avenue and SW 30th Street from Bell Avenue to George Flagg Pkwy are both closed due to flood waters.
