Eastern Iowa police say they hope to know soon whether the man accused of kidnapping a Webster County teen is connected to the missing Evansdale cousins.

Police say Michael Klunder kidnapped Kathlynn Shepard and a 12-year-old girl last week.

The 12-year-old was able to escape, but Kathlynn hasn’t been seen since.  Officials say Klunder took his own life later that day.

Evansdale police say they have investigators working to find out where Klunder was last July, when Elizabeth Collin and Lyric Cook disappeared.

The two were last seen riding their bikes near Meyers Lake on July 13.

After five months of searching, hunters found the girls remains in a wooded area of Bremer County. Police have not named any suspects since finding the bodies.

Wednesday, police said they hope to have a definite answer on whether Klunder is connected by next week.
