For many the Principal Charity Classic is a cool opportunity to see some good golf, but the tournament is about more than just golf. In the last six years they have donated nearly $4 million to central Iowa children’s charities, some of that has gone to Blank Children’s Hospital.
Thursday the players’ wives got to tour the neo-natal intensive care unit and o.b. unit.
They also got to meet the family of a set of premature twins born at just 28 weeks.
Last year money from the tournament went to help remodel Blank’s maternity nursery. It also held the hospital buy new rockers for the newborn ICU.
“When you saw them walk into room and interact with mom and her twins and the other babies in nursery it really makes you feel good to say this event is making a difference and we cans see where the money goes…we can see what good it’s doing,” Blank CEO David Stark said.
The first round of tournament play begins Friday.
