The Iowa Department of Transportation is almost ready to launch their online license renewal system.

Governor Branstad signed house file 355 in May paving the way for the DOT to write rules governing the online renewal process.

They say their new system will be ready for Iowans to start renewing their licenses from the comfort of their homes by mid-July.

But they are also warning everyone to be on alert for imposter websites trying to take your information and your money. They urge everyone to make sure you are on the official DOT website with a secure connection that says https:// in your browser window. If you are unsure of the sites security do not give out any valuable information.
