I have said here before and will again… I’ve got a great job.
The last two days are a great example.
Monday I took a vacation day so I could go over and participate in the Media Day event for The John Deere Classic. The PGA tournament makes its Summer stop in the Quad Cities in July. This year’s defending champ is Iowan Zach Johnson. He made a stop to talk about the tournament Monday. I’d never met Zach before but he is one of my favorite players to watch. He is exactly what you’d expect….humble, unassuming and easygoing. He made time for everyone and hung around the clubhouse after he’s fulfilled all his obligations. Zach sits on the Board of Directors for the JDC as well so he was promoting the event and talking about defending his title.
The side benefit…and the reason for the vacation day is the chance to play the course. It was in near perfect condition. For the second year in a row, I played with one of the JDC Board members Tim Conrad. He and the other people who help make this tournament happen are fiercely proud of the work they do…and they should be. It’s a great event every year and it is looking like it will be again.
We also got to try to re-create Zach’s winning shot from Last year’s JDC.
He won in sudden death by sticking a six iron from 192 yards out of a fairway bunker. I took three shots at it when we played the 18th…this was my best result:
Who’s your Caddie
Tuesday I was gone because I agreed to be “auctioned” off at a charity event benefitting
Young Women’s Resource Center.
The Women’s Golf League out at Des Moines Golf and Country Club Decided to hold the benefit for YWRC and asked if I would be willing to help out.
I’m embarrassed to say what the winning group bought my services for… as I am not sure they got their money’s worth… but I had a lot of fun with all four.
Susan Porter, Lisa Copple, Debra Pietzsch and Julie Slater proved they are a lot more hearty than most Men’s groups I’ve played with when they ignored the moderate to heavy rain and played on! I hit from the back tees and at times my playing partners were a little nervous about my aim…
I tried my best to keep them dry when it rained and fulfill my Caddie duties…
We finished 14 holes before they called us in for lunch and an even more enjoyable conversation. I’d like to thank them all again for their generous donation and for showing my a great time golfing on a not so great day.
Thanks again Ladies! Great to meet all of you!
