Des Moines police are investigating a fatal shooting on the city’s north east side.

Police were called to 1631 East Aurora Avenue around 2:30 Thursday morning, but it took a while for them to find the body.

A woman called police around 1:20 a.m. saying she was concerned about a friend who was assaulted.

Their investigation brought them to East Aurora where officers found the man shot outside of Iowa Trailer Storage.

They are not releasing the man’s identity, but say he was in his mid-30s.

Sgt. Jason Halifax explained the discrepancy between the initial call from a concerned female friend of the victim and finding the deceased man, “She was pretty vague initially about what had happened. She wasn’t able to give us a solid address. The phone that she originally called us on was a 911 only phone so we couldn’t call that phone back.”

The female caller was taken to the police station and was questioned. Police say she was not on the scene when the shots were fired, but she did say she heard the shots.

There are currently no suspects in the case.
