A western Iowa church is claiming some lost treasure. The state of Iowa cut a check for just over $18,000 to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City this week.
The church discovered they were owed money through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt. The program awards money from unclaimed property to Iowans every year.
The money owed to the church came from un-cashed checks, stemming from four insurance claims to the church.
The state treasurer says this check is the largest sum he’s every paid out to an institution.
