DAIRY MONTH: ISU Dairy Farm Welcomes Visitors
Iowa State University gave local residents a lesson on where milk comes from Friday.
The university held tours for anyone interested in how the dairy industry works, safety measures, and the best types of animal care. Visitors got to sample dairy products like milk and yogurt. The event is all part of the June Dairy Month celebration at Iowa State.
The ISU dairy farm has 394 milking cows and each cow produces 78 pounds of milk per day. The school’s students and professors hope the tours got people as excited about dairy as they are.
“The goal of the dairy farm is teaching and research. We have an excellent opportunity to see both science in action, see a true dairy farm in operation, and provide healthy quality milk to the public,” says student Jessie Juarez.
