A Des Moines Register Iowa poll released Saturday night is providing some insight into the 2014 governor’s race.

The poll asked over 500 Iowans if the election was held today, who would they vote for, the incumbent governor, Terry Branstad or potential democratic candidate Iowa state senator, Jack Hatch.

Governor Branstad won the poll by 28-points – 55-percent to 27-percent.

Neither Branstad nor Hatch has officially entered the race. If Branstad does, he could be set for an unprecedented 6th term.

The only declared candidate is former democratic legislator Bob Krause who wasn’t a choice in this poll.

The Sunday edition of the Des Moines Register will have more results from the poll.
