Slowed work will cause the Grand Avenue Bridge to remain closed longer.
Construction crews had planned to have three lanes of the bridge re-open by September 9, but that date has been pushed back to September 27 instead.
Authorities say crews unexpectedly found asbestos on the bridge, which had to be tested and removed. That along with wet weather has pushed back the timeline of the work.
The bridge connects Des Moines and West Des Moines at 63rd Street and has been closed since March.
It’s costing $3 million to replace.
