Plans for a multi-million dollar interchange may finally be moving forward. Testing has been completed and officials say no endangered bats live at the site of the soon-to-be Interstate-80 interchange at Alice’s Road.
Years of planning were halted when an endangered Indiana bat was discovered about a half mile from the construction site.
Officials performed a study to see how the bat’s environment will be affected by the interchange. Their report has been sent to the federal government who will have the final word on whether the project can continue
The $35,000 cost of that study was split between the cities of Waukee and West Des Moines. The cities had planned to begin construction in September.
