The town of Belmond is surveying the damage after Mother Nature sent a tornado roaring through town Wednesday afternoon.

Leah Daniels of Belmond sent us the video above of the tornado forming a few miles outside of town.

At least three tornadoes reportedly touched down in Iowa Wednesday, but the brunt of the damage occurred in Belmond, a Wright County town of 2,300 people.

The Cattlemen’s Restaurant located on U.S. 69 north of Belmond was completely destroyed. The owners and a cook narrowly escaped.  Bartender Patti McGinnis says she was on her way to work when her truck broke down. If it hadn't she says she would've been right in the path.

Crews worked to clear up a large propane tank leaking in the area before they let rescue crews go near the damage.

Channel 13 reporters on the scene say power lines are down across the northern part of town and at least one house is badly damaged.

Howard Enterprises located on U.S. 69 has also been destroyed.
