Thursday afternoon family and friends said goodbye to Kathlynn Shepard, the 15-year-old who was kidnapped and murdered in May.
Kathlynn’s father, urged mourners to remember the good times.
“For all those who knew her picture her in your mind right now, picture the best memory you have of her and hold it there,” said Michael Shepard.
Dressed in Kathlynn’s favorite color, purple, hundreds packed the Southeast Webster-Grand Middle School in Boxholm.
Kathlynn was abducted last month from a bus stop in Dayton. Her body was found three weeks later in the Des Moines River.
The community filled the school Thursday and Kathlynn’s family says she’s looking down on them all.
“It’s all Kathlynn ever wanted, to be happy and help. And I think she’s smiling on all you guys. I know she’s smiling on you guys,” said Shepard.
The man who abducted Kathlynn, 42-year-old Michael Klunder, took his own life before authorities could capture him.
