Authorities say a sinkhole in Runnells was not caused by an underground coal mine.

The ground started to sink on the edge of West McKinney Street last month.

Crews were on the scene Friday with heavy equipment to see what was causing the growing hole. They determine it was a shift in the ground that caused concrete from a past structure to settle.

Runnells was built on top of a mine, which is why many suspected it caused the problem.
