Three people were injured, one critically, in an explosion at a northeast Iowa manufacturing plant early Monday morning.

According to the Des Moines Register, rescue crews responded to the Norplex-Micarta laminate manufacturing plant in Postville around 1:20 a.m. on the report of an explosion.

Paramedics took one person by helicopter to a burn unit in Iowa City. Another person with minor injuries has been treated and released from the hospital.  A third person refused treatment at the scene.

Damage to the plant is estimated at about $6 million. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
