Des Moines police say an April death investigation has turned out not to be a homicide.

Police found the body of 48-year-old Larry Western in the backyard of a north side home on April 25th. His body was found just 18 hours after his girlfriend told police he choked her and hit her in the head with a hammer.

At the time, police said the death was suspicious.

Although autopsy results don’t reveal the cause of death, police say cut marks found on Western’s neck would not have been fatal.
