Children receiving treatments at Blank Children’s Hospital got a special visitor Thursday.

Race car driver Justin Wilson took time out to hang with the kids. He autographed cards and gave out hats and coloring books.

Wilson will race in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 this weekend in Newton but the race wasn’t his priority this afternoon.

“It’s always heartbreaking to see them but at the same time, anything you can do to make their stay go by that little but faster and try and bring a smile to their face,” Wilson said. “I have two children myself so it’s not easy seeing children in hospital beds.”

Wilson has been helping with the organization, Racing for Kids, for the past five years.
