Abnormally high bacteria levels have forced the city of Des Moines to close Gray’s Lake.

The lake is now off-limits for swimming, boating, and fishing. The beach area at the lake is closed, but the trails and the rest of the park is not affected.

Officials say the high bacteria level is due to recent flooding. Testing of the water will be done frequently and once bacteria returns to a safe level normal use of the lake can begin again.
