CHILD PORN: Police Searching For Victims

In an unassuming Ankeny home, Ron Zimmerman, a Pleasant Hill police officer who works closely with the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force says one of the most sickening of crimes has been committed.

“This person was online downloading and transmitting child pornography,” said Zimmerman.

Police say living in that home was 48 year old Paul Hildreth.

He was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Investigators confiscated his personal computers and two hard drives finding enough child porn to stun the most experienced law enforcement officials.

“The second largest case I’ve seen before this was 20,000 images and 100 videos,” Zimmerman told Channel 13 News.

Investigators say Hildreth had 1.5 million images.

Paul HildrethHildreth posted $60,000 dollars bond and was released from jail on Thursday.

Neighbors say they’re concerned this type of activity is taking place so close to their homes.

“It’s appalling to see that going on right in my neighborhood,” said Daniel Wolff.

Police are hoping others who have had contact with Hildreth will also come forward.

Officers say he worked with children volunteering at a local church.

It’s not clear whether any local children appear in images once owned by Hildreth but police aren’t ruling it out.

“Part of the investigation gave us reasonable suspicion there could be local victims. We’re asking anyone who has knowledge to come forth and assist us in the investigation and help us locate the victims,” said Zimmerman.

Hildreth could face up to ten years in prison for sexual exploitation of a minor charges.

If federal charges are filed, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Hildreth is due back in court on June 28th.
