A special event in downtown Des Moines aims to give visitors a glimpse of the future.
Welcome to Walnut Street ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. It’ll be back on Saturday from 3-9 p.m.
There’s live music, performers and plenty of food.
The street has been earmarked for a major makeover. It’s been left empty since the dart transit mall moved out.
“Next year we are hoping to rebuild three blocks after we’ve rebuilt it,” explains CEO of the Downtown Community Alliance, Glenn Lyons.
Welcome to Walnut Street will also run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on three other Fridays including July 19th, August 16th and September 13th.
