An iconic painting by an Iowan is coming to Indianola — in the form of a statue.

Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” is now a 30,000 pound, 25-foot statue. It’s called “God Bless America” by Seward Johnson.

It will be set up at Simpson College and will be there for six months. The statue takes four days to assemble.

Seward Johnson is known for another statue that has received a lot of attention. He created “Forever Marilyn.” The 26-foot Marilyn Monroe statue captured the iconic movie scene, when a subway grate starts to blow up her skirt.

It was in Chicago for some time and is now in Palm Springs, California.
