Allamakee County is getting some help from the state to recover from recent heavy rains and flooding.

Monday, Gov. Terry Branstad issued a Disaster Emergency proclamation for the county.

He also activated the Iowa Individual Assistance Program for Allamakee and Clayton counties. That means grants of up to $5,000 can be applied for through the state. The money is to be used for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and for the cost of temporary housing.
