Heavy rains in eastern Iowa over the weekend have caused flash flooding and mudslides near Lansing.

One home was heavily damaged when a tree fall against the home shoving the house off its foundation. Homeowner Arlen Wonderlick and his wife made their way to a friend’s house before that happened, after two nights of heavy rain saturated the soil around his home.

"I heard a bunch of rock and saw some mud coming down the hillside and that was about midnight, so I told my wife we probably should leave,” says Wonderlick.

Other homes were also damaged in Lansing by mudslides. City and county officials met Monday morning to assess the damage and start planning the recovery process.
