The Iowa Corn Indy 250 had a national television audience, but unfortunately for IndyCar and the Iowa Speedway, it was a small audience.

Nielsen estimates the ABC television rating at 0.7, less than 1% of television households watched the race from Newton.

With speeds of up to 180 miles per hour, James Hinchcliffe dominated the race leading 226 of 250 laps. Defending champion Ryan Hunter-Reay finished second.

Both men say they prefer Iowa Speedway under the lights. This was the first year the race was held during the day time.

Speedway and IndyCar officals say the race will return next year.

The next big racing weekend at Iowa Speedway is July 12th and 13th when the NASCAR Camping World Truck series rolls into Newton.
